Mantisalca salmantica
A member of the daisy family, the dagger flower is a perennial or biennial knapweed, native to Mediterranean areas. Although its common name sounds intimidating, and it looks similar to a thistle, it is not prickly and its fluffy top is quite delicate. The pretty pineapple-like calyx flowers are held on tall, wiry stems that divide and branch with numerous small bluish-pink star-shaped flowers. They are present from spring through to autumn in favourable conditions. It will survive in
